About the event

Course Description

This engaging course delves into the rich tapestry of Chinese medicine, tracing the development of treatment strategies from ancient origins to modern applications. Arguably TCM can be viewed as a modern conglomeration of the history of ideas within Chinese medicine — from the great traditions to the notable specialties. Selecting from theories and approaches that served as the consensus among the architects of TCM,  other profound doctrines were either neglected or displaced due to their difficulties in understanding or simply their association with spiritual or religious traditions. Following the guidelines that Chinese medicine needs to be objective and based on evidence/reason to serve the masses, the subjective features that demonstrate Chinese medicine as an individualistic medicine were discouraged and excluded as subjectivity is difficult to teach and requires clinicians to be willing to change their clinical approach readily with new treatment strategies. This weekend will explore how classical texts and philosophical insights continue to inform modern clinical practice. Such strategies can alter the treatment plan and treatment principles, and perhaps even the treatment method — rather than simply the root and its manifestations. This seminar will examine the historical roots of Chinese medicine and the emergence of different treatment strategies from addressing stages of diseases, humoral correlations, ZangFu highlights, and individual considerations.
